On Sunday’s we’ve been talking about our life’s work and what it means to us, to God and to others. The following are some thoughts I was not able to share with you during those messages, but I believe are God-inspired and important for your spiritual growth as a Christian.
Some thoughts about your life’s work:
#1 God is not against you pursuing a different job, but He is very concerned with how you work at the job you have right now. You can pray and ask God to direct you to another job or career, but don’t expect Him to answer that prayer if you’re slacking at your current work. God wants you to represent Him well in all your work whether it is your dream job or not.
#2 There could be many different jobs or careers God has designed you to excel at. The important thing is keeping Him as the focus of your life and obeying His commandments in whatever work you are doing.
#3 Whatever job you have now is God’s current assignment for you. He wants you to represent Him well at your work by serving others and helping them grow spiritually. The apostle Paul instructs us, 1 Corinthians 7:17, “Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches.” (ESV) You are where you are by divine assignment. God has placed you there as His minister. Your work is the Lord’s work and He is your Boss so “Whatever you do, do your work with all your heart, as for the Lord rather than for men.” (Colossians 3:23, KT)
