My niece was valedictorian of her 2016 graduating class. Her valedictorian speech was quite good and she was very poised and polished as she spoke to those of us in attendance. She spoke about how many people say graduation is the dawn of a new day and a new beginning, but that she didn’t totally agree with them because every day is a new day and a new beginning. She is completely correct. Every day is a new day. Every day is a new beginning.
You might protest and think, “But I feel so overwhelmed and it doesn’t seem like each day is a fresh start. Besides I’ll just do what I always do and mess everything up.” It’s easy to get trapped into this type of negative thinking, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In any situation and with any weakness or sin you’re hoping to overcome or bad habit you desire to change there are one or two key things which will help create hope and change in your life instead of despair and depression.
One is always this: You have to change the way you think. You have to change what you believe. If you believe you’ll never be financially fit, you won’t be. If you believe you can’t conquer that bad habit or sin, you will not. You have to begin each day with God and say out loud, “I am able to change, but I need Your help.” Say it right now, “God I want to change ____________________ (whatever it is) and I need Your help.” When you fail and you, most likely will, you must not quit. You immediately say again, “God I want to change and I need Your help.” Remember this law of sowing and reaping: You must be patient and not give up!
You also need to identify what will influence you to change. In the area of finances do you need to make your giving and your saving automatic? When dealing with a bad habit you have to create a positive habit to replace it. When attempting to defeat a sin you have to use all the tools available to you not just one or two.
And always remember to look to your baptism and say, “I belong to Jesus.” Never forget every day is a new beginning. If you are a Christian then you have the blood of an overcomer flowing through your veins and Jesus is on your side!
You do not have to stay trapped in bondage to anyone or anything because Jesus sets you free.
John 8:36, Jesus speaking, “If the Son (Jesus) sets you free, you really will be free.” (HCSB)
